The Colombian American Cultural Society officially announces the celebration of the Colombian Carnival 2012, which will be held through five events during the months of January (Saturday 1/7) and February (Saturday 2/4, 2/11, 2/18 and 2/25) of 2012. Our Colombian Carnival is a representation of the Barranquilla’s Carnival, which is Colombia’s most important folklore celebration, one of the biggest in the World. The Carnival includes dances like the Spanish Paloteo, African Congo and indigenenous Mico y Micas. Many styles of Colombian music are also performed, most prominently Cumbia. Colombia’s National Congress proclaimed the Carnival of Barranquilla Cultural Masterpiece of the Nation. Also the UNESCO declared it as one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Our Carnival in the state of Rhode Island this year will be held at La Taberna Night Club (695 Lonsdale Ave, Central Falls, RI 02863) after 9PM.
On Saturday January 7th we will begin with a “Pre-Carnival where the 2012 Carnival queen will be chosen”. Enjoy also a special tribute to Joe Arroyo, one of Colombian salsa and tropical music singer, composer and songwriter. Considered one of the greatest performers of Caribbean music in Colombia.

Also enjoy the live show of the orquestra "Ritmo Sabor y Mas" which will be interpreting the best tropical music to give the start to our Colombian Carnival 2012.
On Saturday, February 11, "Night of Guacherna" the popular Guacherna night, which has a large variety of dances to the beat of drums and flutes and millet with the participation of folk groups, cumbiambas, drums and costumes in the light of colored lanterns. "Spinning star lantern into the night, the breeze is a waste of cumbiamberos sounds, crazy colors, Curramba streets, and partying drums, here comes the Guacherna." Do not miss this authentic celebration.

This will be a great night of lots of color, diversity and unity among the different Latin American groups in the state of Rhode Island. Enjoy live music by different musicians from our neighboring countries.
On Saturday, February 25, "Carnival Saturday and Closing Ceremony" follow the tradition of the Carnival of Barranquilla where the mystery and beauty come together in a battle of flowers to dismiss our big Carnival.
